SWISS GRAND CANYON
Wild gorges and rugged cliffs characterise the unique landscape just outside the town of Chur in Graubünden. The white steep walls of the Rhine Gorge rise up to 350 metres. This natural spectacle was created 10,000 years ago when hundreds of millions of cubic metres of rock thundered into the depths during the massive Flims landslide, burying the Vorderrhein under a thick mass of debris. Over time, however, the river cut deeply into the debris – the Rhine Gorge was formed.
